Ian been a resident of Staveley for 29 years and a Director of Staveley based Cumbria Tourism for over 18 years first as Operations Director, then Chief Executive. 

Ian helped establish the Tourism Management Degree Apprenticeship Scheme at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside Campus and has been a Senior Lecturer in tourism marketing, communications and research.

Originally studying Town Planning and working for the Sports Council giving development advice on sports facilities, he then moved to a London based marketing agency to learn about branding, sales promotion and advertising.

After 8 hectic years in the capital, Ian relished the move to the Lake District in the early 1990’s.

Robert moved to Kendal in 1981 and has lived in Staveley since 1991. He is married and both their children were raised in the village before leaving home.

Robert started his career at K Shoes in Kendal and has held a number of senior roles in the footwear & sports sectors including CEO of inov-8, based in Staveley.

In 2019, Robert transitioned to part-time, non-executive roles.

Robert is a former Trustee of Staveley Community Trust, a former Chair of Windermere School and a former Chair of The British Footwear Association.

Matt moved from Manchester to Staveley in 2019. 

Matt has worked in the construction industry since leaving school, becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor. Matt is the Managing Director of a Project Management Contractor developing a new offering in the construction industry, operating across Cumbria.

Soon after arriving in Staveley, Matt joined the team and got onboard to support the playground fundraising.

Rachael started her teaching career at St. Anne’s School, Windermere, where she also held a number of senior positions.

Rachael moved to Staveley in 1993. She was subsequently Deputy Head of a school in Reading, Principal of a school in North Wales and the Thames Valley and finally Head of Secondary at the British School Jakarta, Indonesia. She retained her cottage as her ‘home base’ throughout this period and retired, to live full time in Staveley, in 2015.

Rachael is also a Director and Secretary of the Big Onion and is a Trustee of The Bendrigg Trust.

Pete and his family have lived in Staveley for 23 years and has been a supporter of SVA projects including our previous installation of the playground, car boot sales and more recently a burger flipper at SVA events.

Pete started his career in engineering before 31 years in education from secondary through to primary education. A former headteacher of schools in Windermere and Morecambe. Pete now works in adult education with Westmorland and Furness Council.

“I have been fortunate to undertake a variety of roles in our community: a Governor at our amazing primary school; a Parish Councillor, an original team member on our Emergency Action Group & a team member to our ‘Young at Heart’ fundraising & annual part.

VISION

Appointed 1st July 2025.

Rosina has over 25 years experience across multiple sectors ranging from publishing, transport, fashion and manufacturing.  For 10+ of those years, Rosina worked alongside the senior team at Pearson, owners of Pearson Education, Financial Times and Penguin.

Relocating to Staveley in 2017, Rosina joined The Creative Branch in Staveley Mill Yard to create and build a Marketing department within the established agency, remaining there for 5 years.  Moving to James Cropper for 12 months to support the communication of their company-wide restructure. Residing happily since 2024 at Kendal Mountain Festival leading on strategy, marketing and communications.

Rosina is married to Simon, and they have a daughter, Amory, who currently attends Staveley Primary School.  Most weekends are spent wild swimming in the tarns and lakes, or exploring the fells close by.

Ruth served as SVA Secretary between 2021 & 2024. She then continued to support the SVA as a volunteer.

In May 2026 Ruth agreed to give her time to help coordinate the SVA’s H&S responsibilities.
