SVA Welcomes New Chair

Staveley Village Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Stephens as Chair of the Association following his election on 15 May 2026.

Ian has served as a Trustee since January 2023 and brings a wealth of experience in leadership, community development, tourism and communications to the role. Having lived in Staveley for over 30 years, he has a strong connection to the village and a long-standing commitment to supporting local communities and organisations.

Professionally, Ian spent more than 18 years with Staveley-based Cumbria Tourism, serving first as Operations Director and later as Chief Executive. During that time, he worked closely with businesses, communities and public sector partners across Cumbria, helping to promote sustainable growth and strengthen the county's visitor economy.

Ian has also played an important role in education and skills development. He helped establish the Tourism Management Degree Apprenticeship Scheme at the University of Cumbria's Ambleside campus and has taught as a Senior Lecturer in tourism marketing, communications and research.

His career began in town planning before moving to the Sports Council, where he provided development advice on sports facilities and community projects. He later joined a London-based marketing agency, gaining valuable experience in branding, advertising and sales promotion.

Ian's broad professional background, combined with nearly three decades as a resident of Staveley, gives him a unique understanding of both community needs and organisational leadership. As Chair, he will work alongside fellow trustees, volunteers and community groups to support the continued development and stewardship of the Village Hall, Pavilion and community facilities.

The Association looks forward to working with Ian in his new role and wishes him every success as he leads Staveley Village Association into its next chapter.
