Staveley Playground Closure - May Update

Staveley Playground is now CLOSED to allow preparations for additional sewers to be installed under the playground this summer. United Utilities and their contractor Murphy’s now control vehicular access to the Ayland and use of the Pavilion. Pedestrian access to the Ayland is via the footpath behind the Pavilion. The playground is scheduled to reopen in early September.

Over this last weekend, Murphys have set up their initial Works Compound adjacent to the playground and have installed additional fencing along the playground boundary and across the driveway between the Pavilion & the Pavilion to prevent unauthorised access. Today, Playdale will complete the removal of the play equipment that can be retained and store it within the Works Compound.

In the next few weeks, Murphy’s will remove all of the play equipment that cannot be re-installed, mainly as a result of new regulations. and prepare access routes through the playground for the machinery that will dig the trenches for the new sewers to be installed during July. Once this sewer work is complete, Playdale will install the new play equipment & re-install the retained play equipment during August.

Discussions between the SVA, its insurers, Playdale & Murphy’s have confirmed that the playground has to be closed during these significant works to avoid unacceptable risks, particularly to the young people in our community.

Staveley Village Association appreciates everyone’s understanding as we seek to cooperate with United Utilities in eliminating the long standing problem of sewage discharge in our community. Further updates will be shared in June.
